WHEN GOD SHOWS UP

I’m part of a network of Home Improvement Contractors—an online community of hard-working men and women who understand the grind. It’s more than just swapping leads or trade tips. At its best, it’s a circle of support, encouragement, and sometimes, prayer.

A few weeks ago, one of the guys in the group—let’s call him Brian—opened up. He’s a single dad who’s been in a very rough season financially for over a year now. You could hear the weariness in his story. At times, just when he would begin to get ahead, something would happen and set him back significantly. Some weeks, he said, it was hard just to put food on the table. He didn’t come looking for handouts—just encouragement and prayer. So we prayed.

I reached out to him privately afterward, just to remind him he’s not alone and offered a bit of help if he needed it.

The next day, he messaged me back. What he shared floored me.

That weekend, one of his crew accidentally put a hole in the side of a client’s house. With barely any money, Brian scraped together what little he had and drove 45 minutes to get materials to fix it. On the way, his truck overheated. Sitting on the side of the road, exhausted and overwhelmed, he said he hit his breaking point. He was done. Emotionally bankrupt and out of options.

And then the phone rang.

It was a client asking if Brian could help with some work. Brian, in honesty, said he couldn’t. The client pressed him: Why not?

So Brian told him everything.

Without hesitation, the client responded: “I’ll give you a $20,000 advance for a project I’ve been thinking about. And by the way, I own service stations. I’ll have your truck towed and repaired—on me.”

That moment changed everything. Not just the money or the truck—but the hope. The presence of God was undeniable. Right there on the side of the road, in the middle of despair, God showed up.

Lamentations 3:25 says, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” I don’t share this story because of the provision itself, but because of the God who comforts in the pit. A God who sees, who hears, who acts—because He is good. Because He is God.

If you’re in a dark place today, remember Brian’s story. God is good to those who wait for Him. Trust Him!

How about you? Have you ever experienced God’s provision in the depths of despair? Let’s share and learn together.
